Introduction to Sustainable Development Goals and Maker Project
- Objective:

- Time: 90 minutes (you can divide this over 2 periods)
- Sustainable Development Goals (30 mins):
Step 1: Explain that the Sustainable Development Goals are a set of 17 global goals established by the United Nations to create a more sustainable and equitable world. Step 2: Show the students the presentation slides or posters outlining the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Just show an overview and do not go into details of every single goal.
Step 3: Discuss in detail for the ONE goal that CaL has selected as a focus area for this year. The projects for this year should only focus on this goal:

Step 4: Divide kids into pairs or small groups. Students can read about the problems related to SDG 11 as well as India’s stance on the SDG. You can have pairs of students read different content and then share with each other. They can explore some sites for this:

- Maker Projects (30 mins):
Step 1: Explain that Maker Projects are a way for students to create solutions for real-world problems related to the Sustainable Development Goals using their creativity, technical skills, and critical thinking abilities.
Step 2: Give some examples of Maker Projects that have addressed issues related to the Sustainable Development Goals.Maker Case Studies based on SDG in indian context can be found here. You can present one or two and have students read and discuss these ideas given below:
- Conclusion (10 mins):
- Explain that Maker Projects are a way for students to create solutions for real-world problems related to the Sustainable Development Goals using their creativity, technical skills, and critical thinking abilities.
- Remind students of the importance of sustainable development and the role they can play in creating a better world through their Maker Projects.
- End the session on an enthusiastic note, emphasizing the exciting possibilities of what students can accomplish throughout the project.
- Tips:

- By the end of this session, students should have a good understanding of SDG #11 and at least 4-5 different problems they should be thinking about that they want to solve through their Maker Project
- Be prepared to answer questions about the Sustainable Development Goals and the course structure.
- Use real-life examples to help students understand the importance of sustainable development and the potential impact of their Maker Projects.
- Encourage student participation and engagement throughout the session.
