- Introduction (10 mins):
- Begin the lesson by discussing the significance of a book cover in attracting readers and conveying the essence of the story.
- Show a selection of picture books with eye-catching covers and back covers. Discuss how the design elements and imagery contribute to the overall appeal.
- Explain that a cover should capture the reader’s attention, communicate the genre or theme, and create curiosity about the story.
- Main Activity - Designing a Captivating Cover and Back Cover (40 min):
- Divide the students into pairs or small groups.
- Distribute sketching materials and ask students to brainstorm and sketch ideas for a cover and back cover for their picture book.
- Instruct students to consider the following criteria when designing their covers and back covers:
- Eye-catching and visually appealing illustrations or images
- Clear and legible title and author’s name

- Ask each group to present their cover and back cover designs to the class.
- Facilitate a class discussion on the different design elements used and how they contribute to the overall appeal and communication of the story.
