Lesson X
Writing the Phase 2 Document
- Objective:
To complete the Phase 2 document, incorporating the testing plan and additional details required for the project.
- Resources:
- Phase 1 document from the previous session with CaL feedback.
- Access to CaL G Drive or other document-sharing platforms.
- Guidelines for Phase 2 document (provided by CaL).
- Time: 60-90 min
- Introduction (05 mins):
- Remind students about the importance of submitting a Phase 2 document to City as Lab (CaL) and receiving approval before proceeding with testing and prototyping.
- Explain that the next two classes will be dedicated to writing the Phase 2 document and incorporating the necessary information.
- Guidelines (15 mins):
- Share the Phase 2 guidelines document with students and ensure they understand the requirements.
- Encourage students to carefully review the guidelines and use them as a reference while writing their Phase 2 document.
- Discuss the specific questions or sections outlined in the guidelines to guide students’ thinking and ensure they cover all the necessary aspects.
- Discussion (15 mins):
-
Engage the group in a discussion to address the questions and sections outlined in the Phase 2 guidelines.
-
Prompt students to consider the following points:
-
Timeline: When will testing begin? How long will the first testing period last? Are there plans for revisions based on the initial testing? When will the second round of testing start (if applicable)?
-
Sample Size: How many users will be involved in testing? How many times will the app be tested? Where will the testing take place?
-
Types of Data: What specific data will be collected during testing? How will it be documented? How will the collected data demonstrate the usefulness and functionality of the app?
-
Data Collection Tool: If focus groups, interviews, or surveys are used, include the actual tools or questionnaires that will be employed.
-
Connection to SDG: Connect the problem being addressed in the project to one of the Sustainable Development Goals proposed by the United Nations. Explain the connection and the impact the project can have on achieving the selected SDG.
-
Detailed Design: Include a comprehensive and detailed design that illustrates the materials, measurements, and functioning of the prototype.
-
Resources: List the materials required for the prototype along with their associated costs. Remind students that they are responsible for sourcing and funding these resources.
-
- Work Time (25 mins):
- Allow students to begin writing their Phase 2 document based on the guidelines and the discussion.
- Provide guidance and support as needed during this work period.
- Conclusion (5 mins):
- Summarize the objectives and tasks covered in the session.
- Remind students to continue working on their Phase 2 document as homework and to bring it to the next class for further refinement.
- Emphasize the importance of meeting the deadline set by CaL for submitting the Phase 2 document.
