CaL Conference

The City as Lab conference is our grand finale- a fitting culmination to the students’ long project-based learning journey. In the past, the conference has been held at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya in Mumbai, Museum of Solutions (Mumbai) and the Ministry of Environment and Forests in New Delhi.

Selected groups, (chosen after their projects have gone through the blind review process), present to an authentic audience of over one hundred students, teachers, parents, guests, and an esteemed panel of educators, researchers and scientists, pushing students to prepare well, take ownership of their learning and think critically about their work.

Student groups selected to present at the conference also participate in a series of fun and educational workshops organized especially for them. All in all, it is an incredible day-long experience for the qualifying groups.

It has not been the easiest journey, but in the end it was rewarding and it has changed me. As a writer my future hopes are to inspire people to see that writing can be something fun and exciting, that it can change the way you think, the way you express yourself, and the way you view the world.

"It may be the best project of my life. Every year we do project in our school but this was totally a different experience where we actually went out of the class and collected information. I had only watched doing investigation, collecting data and finding solution in movies and different shows but in this project we really had to find a problem, investigate it, collect data on it and find a solution to it."

"I realized after the research that how education is important for us. I think after the research I got to know many things about my own community as I’ve always seen women being dominated but I never put efforts (to) know the reason. This project forced me to go out and know why women are being dominated in my community. Now I can relate the things to my own house, my own family where my mum is also a victim of the same problem where her parents made her leave her education and married her. I realize how lucky I have got the opportunity (to) learn and set example for my own community to change their mindset..."

"What I applaud about Reniscience Education is that you are providing schools with updates on principles of learning and pedagogy. All schools can benefit by adopting what you promote. We are glad to let schools know about you and your flagship programme City as Lab. "

"This project has been an amazing learning experience for the classroom as a whole, as the entire concept revolves around various values like team work, perseverance, ownership, respect, hard work, confidence, cooperation, integrity. The learning curve throughout the project both for the students and me has been leaps and bounds. It has been very similar to the project management in corporate with students working in teams and within the deadlines. The outcome the students have exhibited has given me hopes that these students have only sky as their limits. Now I know that the opportunity to pursue their dreams will be constrained only by the limits of their imagination and their diligence – never by where they come from, and I have trust in their capacities."
