PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT

Phase 1 Checklist

Phase 1: Students submit the following for Phase 1 of their Photography Project

Due Date: August 15th 2025

Format: As a Google Doc on the folder shared by City as Lab

Please do not begin taking photographs until we approve this Phase.

INITIAL BRIANSTORM: Research and brainstorm with your team a list of at least 20 specific ideas/places/people, etc. you would think would help you meet the challenge. We need to see all 20 ideas in one table. You should have a justification for each of the 20 ideas in the second column next to the idea. These ideas need to be varied keeping in mind the CaL rubric and the challenge. Read the challenge here and reach out to us to gain more clarity, if needed.

How will this photo adhere to the challenge?
  1. SHORTLIST: From this list, reach a consensus for any TEN ideas you all agree you would like to work on further for this challenge.  These SHOULD BE highlighted in the above table. In choosing the 10, you should consider how these 10 are different from each other to give you a variety of shots e.g., you don’t want to have all still shots or only shots of walls and murals or only shots of people, etc. You should also consider the practicality of going to these places for taking photos, if any special permissions will be needed, etc. Lastly, and most important, think about what is interesting for you and for which ten photos will you be able to tell a REALLY GOOD STORY.
  2. RATIONALE: For each of the ten, describe the rationale in another table (given below): Why did you choose this idea out of the original 20? How does it connect to the challenge? Write this BELOW the table Answer the question: How will these 10 photos together represent the theme “Rhythm, Colour, and Movement: The Art of Our City” for YOUR city?
  3. PROCESS: For EACH selected idea, describe the process of HOW you would like to shoot it. Look up SIMILAR photos online and see how they have been shot BEFORE you answer the above questions
    • Where will you do the photography shoot?
    • Would you need to travel? How will you get there? Who will take you?
    • Would you need to make an appointment?
    • Would you need to give special instructions to an artist before the shoot?
    • Would you need special permission to shoot at certain locations?
    • How will you ensure your safety when shooting?
    • What angle will you use (side, top, front, bottom)
    • Would you like to use any filters? (black and white, UV filter, etc.). Research about the variety of ways in which you can edit your images.
    • What would be the best time of day to shoot here? How early or late would you need to get there?
  4. What kinds of cameras would you use? Be specific
  5. Who will do what? Delegate responsibilities and include a table below.
