Lesson Plan 10

Data collection methods Selection

  • Objective:

Students select and discuss the appropriate data collection methods for their own RQ.

  • Resources (Teacher):
  1. A copy of the graphic organizer per group.
  2. A copy of the case study to project or share with every group
  • Resources (Students):
  1. CaL Note Book
  2. Pencil/Pen
  3. Drawing paper or sketch book
  4. Blackboard + Chalk
  • Time: 45 min
  • Plan:

Step 1. Whole Class  (25 mins):  The teacher starts with the following case study. Hand out the case study to each group or project it. Read the case study and ensure all students understand it well. Explain how this hypothetical group evaluated each method using the advantages/disadvantages graphic organizer and eventually, selected the best methods for their RQ.

Step 2. Group Work: (20 min) Students sit in their CaL groups and use the same graphic organizer to discuss 4 methods for their own RQ. They complete the table for all four methods and finally write a decision statement as shown in the case study. The teacher walks around and helps different groups. Collect the completed graphic organizers from each group and provide feedback by the next class.
